I’ll never understand…why not just go? As soon as you’ve made the decision, just go. Disappear, vanish, abruptly. I’ve so far found that when someone announces their retirement like this, when they make a big song and dance of it, that they rarely do actually leave. It’s usually attention seeking and them wanting to see who’s listening. They always keep their porn persona Twitter’s up and running, posting memes and GIF’s and then we get, “Who’d like to see me return?” or they’ll leave with an abusive “Fuck you, I’m a homophobe” Tweet and just slope back four months later like nothing happened.
I always see these announcements in two ways:
(a) people who recognize that if you just disappear, there’s an assumption you’ve succumbed (t drugs, to roids, to something) and disappeared because you’ve completely fell apart. So, when they announce, they let it be known they are leaving on their terms, and it’s not something more sinister.
(b) but truthfully, every time I see these posts, I read it as an a la Darius Ferdynand “I’m being taken care of”, meaning they either have a stable and financially set boyfriend or a sugar daddy, and aren’t doing porn because they feel they’ve “hit it big”. To me, that’s why many of these guys always come back, because when the boyfriend/sugar daddy feels like the gleam is off the gold, these former kept men need to find something to do….
Yup, the ones you wish you’d known were retiring (Elian at Corbin Fisher comes to mind) just suddenly one day aren’t *there* anymore, while the rest keep coming back like a bad penny. One of life’s little ironies I suppose.
